Dear Parent / Guardian,
I am writing to inform you of a new school rule that will be introduced from Monday 2nd December 2019 at REACH School. As of Monday, no vapes or vaping paraphernalia will be allowed in school at all. Spot check searches will take place and anyone found carrying a vape or vaping items will have them confiscated. They will only be returned if a parent comes to collect them.
There are several reasons for the introduction of this rule. First and foremost, vapes are dangerous to a person’s health – they irritate and inflame airways and can cause long term damage to the lungs.
Secondly, there is an increasing number of illegal substances now being used in vapes which cannot be detected as easily as cannabis smoking. As a school we need to ensure that students are discouraged from this. Electronic cigarettes are being used to vape illegal substances like cannabis, cocaine, and ecstasy as part of a disturbing new drugs culture across the UK. A study by public health experts has revealed alarming numbers of e-cigarette users are modifying their vaping devices so they can inhale vapour from banned drugs.
I am sure you will agree that this is totally unacceptable and that it is vital for your child’s safety and health that such items are banned and confiscated if found.
I hope that you will take this opportunity to discuss with your child the issues raised in this letter and support us in our attempts to improve their well-being further. If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me via school reception: 0121 675 8989.
