Governance
The Purpose of Governance
As outlined in the Governance handbook for Academy trusts and maintained schools published by the Department for Education in October 2020, the purpose of governance is to provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance.
All boards, no matter what type of schools or how many schools they govern, have three core functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
Governance at
The Reach School
Should you wish to enquire about volunteering as a governor or discuss any aspect of governance at The Reach School, please email john.gibson@reachschool.co.uk using the message title FAO The Governing Body.
Safeguarding Recruitment Statement
The Reach Free School are committed to safeguarding all children and young people in their care and will look to an enhanced DBS and references prior to any governor appointment.
At the Reach School, governors perform these duties by ensuring that we have a governing body with a suitable skill set, regular full and sub-committee group meetings and giving individuals specific foci to address on their regular visits to the School (e.g. Safeguarding). Currently there are 3 sub-committee groups; Teaching and Learning, Finance and Resources and Pay and Personnel.
